The area around the podium is lit. You can get a feel of the ambiance from the pics below.Looks messy, disorganized.but that is what learning is like--messy, social, serendipitous.and TWU gives plenty of opportunity for all of this. You walk into a semi-dark, fairly large conference room and sit on one of the plush chairs.

Instead of recording hour-long lectures at the podium, encourage faculty to create shorter video lessons (around 10 minutes each, or less, according to a study from MIT and University of Rochester ) for quality online courses. Anything that enhances that idea of social presence, especially for online students, would be beneficial.
