Docebo Launches Major Mobile App Feature Update Borne From Customer Ideas Portal

• 4 min read

Docebo’s award winning mobile app now supports course catalogs, in which learners can self-enroll, and deep linking

Despite a healthy learner appetite for mobile platforms that enable these experiences, more than a third of the learner population doesn’t have access to a mobile solution that truly connects with them. Indeed, organizations are leaving a lot to be desired on the mobile learning front and are missing out on incredible opportunities to achieve better engagement and knowledge retention.

These factors, coupled with an endless desire to push the limits of L&D technology innovation, are the basis of Docebo’s completely revamped mobile learning app, launched in mid-2018 and based upon a future-proof technology stack that makes the introduction of new capabilities much faster to produce continuous, uninterrupted learning experiences.

The mobile app gives learners access to their Docebo learning platform on iOS and Android-powered devices, where they can attend courses and complete training materials (online and offline), while leveraging Docebo’s social and experiential learning capabilities.

Indeed, the app has hit home among L&D circles, proven by an impressive showing at the prestigious 2018 Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards, where it took home a gold medal for Best Advance in Mobile Learning for its ability to produce user-friendly, continuous social learning experiences – powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Instead of resting on our laurels, we’re excited to unveil three new mobile app features, including some of the most requested features straight from our customers via the Docebo Ideas Portal, to improve the mobile learning experiences your organization is able to provide. Course Catalogs Are Now Included Within The Mobile Experience

Catalogs are collections of formal courses and learning plans used for a variety of purposes. This latest update includes mobile app support for course catalogs, which were previously only visible in the Docebo desktop application. A long awaited capability from our fast-growing customer base, the new functionality provides Learning and Development administrators the ability to collect courses and/or learning plans based on a theme or topic, and allows their learners to browse courses within them, giving them a way to extend the reach of their learning activities.

These catalogs act as a collection of both mandatory and non-mandatory content that learners are able to enroll in on their own as long as the administrator has enabled the self-enrollment function for that catalog. For example, your team of technical writers might want to improve their multimedia skills (i.e. photo or video editing) even though those skills might not be required to do their jobs. Now, these learners are able to uncover learning content catalogs on topics in which they have a genuine interest, enroll in various courses, download specific learning objects to their mobile application and enjoy them (for example) on a long flight home for the holidays – even if they don’t have internet access.

Encourage Learners to Satisfy Curiosity With Course Catalog Self-Enrollment

The self-enrollment function is a critical and incredibly useful one. It empowers learners to seek out opportunities on their own, amplifying learner autonomy and overall engagement with your learning platform, simply because they no longer need to ask permission to enroll in courses that pique their interests.

If a learner is browsing course catalogs and uncover one that interests them, they are able to enroll themselves and take the course right away as long as the admin has set the self-enrollment option for that course. It is important to note that catalogs may or may not appear in the mobile app, depending on how the admin has configured the system.

Mobile Deep Linking Now Available

The Docebo mobile app  you can now send deep links from the app via email, web pages or other applications, opening the mobile experience to a series of integration scenarios, such as social networks, where other apps are able to interact with it through links.

Important note: The deep linking functionality in the Docebo Mobile app requires intervention from a developer or programmer, unless the admin has coding skills of their own.

We’ve all experienced it before: you come across a piece of content while perusing a social media site. You click a call-to-action link to explore some more and your mobile web browser takes you to web page, even though you have that publisher’s app installed on your phone, producing a messy and unintuitive experience.

Mobile app deep links point instead to content inside an app. For example, say your company promotes a speaker system on Faceboook.  A visitor can read your post and hit a “see how it works” call-to-action button. His/her phone will automatically open the Docebo mobile app, which will display a video that demonstrates how a buyer could install that speaker system in their home, without an app login or other steps that could interrupt the viewing experience.

Without a deep link, that user would have to find the app in the Apple App store or Google Play Store, open the app to the homepage, locate the search function and then try to find the speaker video on their own. This isn’t exactly a seamless learning experience.
