EdTech App Solutions To Educational Problems

My son is good at social studies but weak at math. How can I help him get better at it? A few of my students have ADHD, which makes it difficult for them to stay focused in class. What's the solution to that? These are just two examples of a prevalent issue that many students are facing today. Studying has changed into stu-dying, and the reason is that we are still teaching the way it was done 100 years back. But now it's time to change this system and the fate of our future generations. There have been many tries for the same, some failed while some became a huge success, like Udemy, Byju’s, Unacademy, etc. All these startups were a bold and commendable attempt to solve the problems of our current education system. Today, we’ll be talking about all the ways we can bring a revolution to our education system with a mobile application and the importance of education app development. The good news is that several educational institutes and reformists are interested in ITE (Innovative Technology in Education) and excited about the development possibilities in EdTech. In 2009, the entire EdTech industry was valued at $380 million, and now after a decade, in 2019, Byju's (world's most valued EdTech company) alone is worth $5.4 billion. The effective solutions to solve educational problems with mobile apps are:

1. Tailored Lesson Plans

Every child is different, and so each child's needs and learning style are also different. So, instead of making the kids adjust to a cookie-cutter format of studies, why don't we adjust according to the kids' preferences. This is the concept behind tailored lesson plans. Imagine a classroom where students complete their assignments on a tablet in-class, giving you an idea of which students have understood the concept and which need added assistance for the same. Now the students that haven’t yet grasped the concept can be offered individually tailored lesson plans that give the students the specific practice that they require.

2. Gamification

Who doesn't like games, right? Gamification is exactly what it sounds like. It is the process of making learning more interactive and fun by introducing small challenges, fun tasks, and rewards. Who would kids like to learn Newton's laws from, a grumpy looking wo/man or their most favorite cartoon, Mickey Mouse? Obviously, a child would like to learn with Mickey. This is the process of gamifying your educational app. Gamification has become very popular among language learning applications, like Duolingo and Memrise. It’s simple logic, applying what you have recently learned in the game form practice will help you cement the concept in your mind better than merely repeating words or phrases over and over.

3. Video Lectures

Video lectures are the heart and soul of the EdTech apps that we see today. The teachers or tutors record a video lecture that is broken into small chunks of 5 to 10 minutes, explaining one topic in one video. Before the rise of the internet, such video lectures did exist in the form of VHS tapes and DVDs. Now they can be streamed from online channels like YouTube and Adobe Connect or stored in the database and be accessible by educational apps, like Byju's, when you purchase their course.

4. Course-Specific Forums

Most of the EdTech apps provide personalized tutors that teach one-on-one, but in case the tutors are busy or you wish to learn from someone else with a fresh perspective, integrating a course-specific forum is a brilliant idea. It's also perfect for the students that can't interact with other students or professors in person. An EdTech app needs to provide a way for the students to ask questions and get different perspectives online. Integrate a forum into each course that your EdTech app provides, and the relevant community or moderators will quickly address your users' questions.

5. Organizing Content Weekly/In Sections

Almost all EdTech apps provide courses organized into a series of sections or weeks. The reason is that with this approach, there can be two ways to go with the course: (a) Make the course available for a scheduled time frame or (b) make a learn-at-your-own-pace type of course. Both course formats have their own pros and cons, and students can choose as per their convenience.

6. Tests And Projects

So, how much did the kid actually learn from the EdTech app? How will you find out? That is why there are several short tests and small projects set up at the end of each module, and also some sort of final exam or project that will measure the child’s overall progress at the end of the year. The short project or test at the end of each topic is to reinforce what the student learned in that section. On the other hand, the big MOOC tests only offer a pass/fail judgment instead of various grade rankings, assuring only their understanding without forcing them to run a rat race to score higher.

So these are the ways we can improve the current education system and make it a better environment for the students to thrive. Education app development is a very important section of the app development vertical. It is more than just about making a business app make money, it's about creating exceptional apps that help students learn in the best way possible.
