Product Review – Adobe Captivate Prime LMS

The name alone “Adobe” is a strong brand, highly recognized in the tech industry.  If you are a fan of Adobe products and love Captivate the authoring tool or Connect, then having the LMS wouldn’t be out of the question. If you do not have those Adobe e-learning offerings, but have Adobe products, again, it is not out of the realm to see you purchasing the solution.

Product Review: Totara

eLearning 24-7

Blog – This was on the trial and for a nice product like this – it should be removed for the trial.  It is sooo boring. While that makes sense, what hurts the product is the overkill of information. know Totara is going to say that the product is built on open source and the folks who are buying it know the technical aspects/Moodle and thus this isn’t an issue.

My forecasts for 2017

eLearning 24-7

So yeah, there are a lot of MOOCs out there, but there is also a lot of people  who still buy a certain individual frozen pizza product (which ranks up there with cardboard).  And the crowds roared.  And the people sang from the hilltops. And a lot of prognosticators wouldn’t stay it.  They wouldn’t admit it. That yes, they missed the boat.  . They spewed their forecasts, left others to spout “Wow, and yeah,” but failed to see the trends. Miss the big picture. Some of my personal favorites. WRONG:  Talent/PM in an LMS and its subsets, has already hit its peak.

Open ID is in the product – I love that! Lots to get do, so little time or space for that matter. What I am seeing. Less statistics.  Now it is as though we have come full circle but the exception being nicer graphics and UIs. zzzz, oh sorry about that. I was drooling on my keyboard. As a Result. Lastly there is the whole UI thing.  Step three?

Top Six E-Learning Tools for 2015

eLearning 24-7

Usually I list the others first, then the top tool or top product at the bottom to build excitement. Anyway, he launched this product and it really is very cool.  As you can surmise it enables you to create demos of your product, content, etc.  A demo can easily become a course.   Well it is that time of the year.  Unusual? The E-Learning Slug Awards

eLearning 24-7

The people who build some of these products, well… And now the AWARDS. It’s going to be a slugfest. Slugging it out? Slugfantastic! Yes, I made up that word, but go with it. I don’t know about you, but while I love giving out awards to systems, authoring tools and e-learning tools that deserve it, rarely do you hear about platforms that are slugs. . Equally, where the industry loves jargon, buzz words and the latest whatever, some deserve to be in the slug folder.  Maybe they need a squish or perhaps just a little push with a stick to go faster. slug to pass you by?

Top Ten Learning Management Systems – July Rankings

eLearning 24-7

The user interface is slick and feature wise the product has a lot to offer. I see them in the mid size market, 1,000-10,000 users, but again can easily go 10,000 and more users – so don’t let that be a deal breaker if you are checking them out.  Back for another installment of the rankings. The final rankings will be the top 25 LMSs of 2013, will be posted in December.

Top 50 LMS Report for 2016 – What you need to know (criteria, approach, and yeah some vendors)

eLearning 24-7

Oracle Taleo – Seriously, either overhaul this thing or dump it and torch it.   I feel bad for the folks who were learn.com, then thought Taleo would improve it, then Oracle.   And BTW, nearly every LMS can interface with Oracle products. NEO LMS is similar to Matrix, they say they are separate companies and yes, that is true, but the product is more than similar, I smell doppelganger here – reminds me how many people you run into that are duplicates of someone you know (or is it just me, that see’s it?). Not everyone gets in. Sorry, that’s marketing.

New E-Learning Rankings: Authoring Tools

eLearning 24-7

best products that work under water (summer time) and from the e-learning prospective – the best authoring tools. always prefer going from 10 to 1, it builds excitement. #10: TechSmith Camtasia Studio – I’ve debated numerous times if a product that is more of a screen recorder with added feature sets deserves to be in an authoring tool set. Everyone loves lists.

Your Top Three Gamification LMSs for 2016

eLearning 24-7

First off, you can’t judge a web site by the product, because well, the web site stinks.  Three.  It is the magic number.  Well, actually, probably it isn’t, but let’s roll with it. As with anything that involves rankings there will be conjecture on this or whether it really belongs with that. Most of all, folks will wonder why there system isn’t in my top three.  Or they will wonder what they can do it be in the top three of whatever the topic happens to be. That was so yesteryear.   You must adapt, you must enhance and frankly, you must change. Is it an LMS?

Future Technologies – Get Ready because they could change the way we learn online

eLearning 24-7

If you haven’t heard, and most people have not, there is a product out there called Blippar.  One product, Jaspersoft 6.1 is intriguing.  But for mass usage in some ways, just doesn’t seem on task.  It would be more likely that someone would use a drone for learning (that would be cool, just to see), than mass produce a learning product with biometrics and RFID (although I do use that technology). Say out loud learning technology and the two words just seem not to go together. Learning? You mean the classroom?  Technology?  Some clearly will, others, maybe not.

Creating an e-learning strategy that works

eLearning 24-7

Perhaps you are seeking a mentoring product or a syllabus management tool or plagiarism detection tool or VR tool or whatever. It should be broken down by line item of each of those components (products you will need). The Conversation. A: “We need to have online learning” B: “Huh? ” A: “I was told we must have e-learning. I’m not really sure what it is, but I know it is popular, so we must have it” B: “Okay, what should I look for?” ” A: “We need a LMS. So look for that.  ” B:  “Ok.” Education?

Build Gr8 Micro-Learning Course

eLearning 24-7

There is ZERO reason that authoring tool vendors (as a whole) are ignoring this and then tell people are product enables you build courses, as though it is enough. For months I’ve been telling folks that if they want to learn how to build outstanding courses, they should surf deep into the search engines, locate the information and begin their learning experience. I was wrong. Now before you go “WHAT?”, ”, let me tell you why.  Outdated and seriously who is using this? have yet to meet an educator who uses Gagne.  ADDIE?  Theory loaded garbage? Video based course.

What is our role in online learning?

eLearning 24-7

Or increasing the sales of products and services for customers and clients in the B2B/B2C space?  Initially this post was going to be whether or not LMSs have become commodities (they haven’t). . However, after reading another article on another country (Brazil) in a depression, China and its economic woes, the under utilization of many employees in the United States (due to the past recession) along with folks who have given up looking for work or finding a job still difficult to acquire, a post on such an initial topic didn’t see the right thing to do. The Possibilities.

State of the Authoring Tool Industry

eLearning 24-7

If I am an authoring tool vendor, I would explore what is happening in the authoring tool market, what my product looks like, how I can make it better for my target audience and what do I see or others I trust see the e-learning space is heading. . Two problems that I see with PPT being used as an authoring tool is that to make it engaging, fun and interactive you have to use what the product includes, and those templates are a mixed bag.  . If you are doing the course link – how about making your product compatible with some of the apps in Zapier or at least Gmail?

xAPI, LRS – The Interview

eLearning 24-7

We created a strategic framework that mapped knowledge sharing to measurable gains in productivity, quality and revenue. What people really want to know about is if something conforms to the specification — meaning “does this product actually do xAPI the way the spec says it must?” Today’s post is quite unique since it takes a different path than previous posts. years.

On Fire in 2013 – What’s going to be hot in e-learning

eLearning 24-7

In 2012 it has been all about collaborative/peer review with authoring products, and it still will be in 2013, but the avatars/actors with/without backgrounds are going to be in “fuego” Where can it go? As a whole we like products that offer some form of personalization. Yeah I know its not the end of the year, when such forecasts tend to show up in droves. HTML5. TinCan.

To be or not to be Moodle

eLearning 24-7

wish many products in the e-learning market had such a fan base, oh wait, Articulate does, but on the LMS side of the house, not really.  I mean people either really love their system, dislike it and stick with it, or dislike it and search out another platform, but Moodle has fanatics (and I mean no disrespect to that). Additional fees can spring up – some people use APIs from other products, including those that are fee based.  If you have thousands of registrants, you might need to have a company oversee that to get them into your platform. Not a fan of it. The heartache.

B2B Top Five LMSs

eLearning 24-7

Resellers who are part of your business learning network – maybe you provide them courses on how to sell your product. I admit I love lists.  I’m one of those people who sees a book of lists about anything and then I must have it. must read it.  I just like lists.  It seems to me that there are others who also love lists. After all there is a social media site dedicated to people making their own lists and then sharing those lists with other people. Yep, people love lists. Yet, other times, the list carries value and benefit.  Channel Partners. Distribution partners. Uh, no.

Video Learning Platforms

eLearning 24-7

While a video learning platform might have multiple products at the end of the day it is built upon two key components (which they all have in some form). The KV Studio is the product to look at.  What I love is their Exchange marketplace which lists an extensive list of partners that can integrate, support or work with their product. Flashback. Beta is better, but VHS wins.

70-20-10 : No longer applicable to online learning – and here’s why

eLearning 24-7

know of a great product that I would use in my LMS, that is designed, IMO to deliver a great coaching experience (albeit they do not use it – product in that fashion). In just a couple of weeks, I’ll be heading on over to London then unto Berlin to speak at Online Educa Berlin. digress, my new coffee, “Death Wish” (actual name) is starting to kick in.  And yes, the name reflects the power err empowerment. “The Truth? You Can’t Handle the Truth” 70-20-10.  I’ll be up front here. Who does that? It no longer applies to e-learning.

DevLearn 2014 Conference Review

eLearning 24-7

Seriously though, as a result of the broken bones in my foot and use of such scooter, I did not attend as many sessions as I wanted, but was able to stop by and take a deeper dive at many products. Best Product at DevLearn 2014. By far the coolest product at this year’s show.  However, the rest of the product and all the other stuff listed above will work in any browser.

LMS Potluck

eLearning 24-7

OR would you rather feel more comfortable knowing that said mechanic attended some session with someone from a training department with the parts company, who had the extensive knowledge and thus experience to provide it? I don’t care how many years that salesperson has with the product.  Rather than spending some additional bucks on some doo-dah in your office or hiring an additional sales person, YOU actually hire a training or L&D director and at least, let them provide the training on your product. . Before we dive in, just a couple of updates. a. Absolutely.  Yep. .

Gamification in E-Learning – Are you really learning?

eLearning 24-7

recall a few years back talking to a vendor whose product included incentive points for their learners.  I’m an addict. An addict for games. Not just any type of game mind you, rather one that I can win at.  I readily admit to playing my Xbox 360 late into the night forgetting that I have to rise and shine early. By the Numbers. Billion dollars by 2016 (M2 Research). Not at all.

Top 8 FREE Open Source LMSs

eLearning 24-7

100% free but with limitations (and you cannot upgrade – some ATs actually do this – with the goal of you buying another of their products). Sakai has a large faithful following and when you gaze into this product you can see why.  Everyone loves free, especially with software. Free software should be in a class by itself, because it often rumbles into three areas: 100% free with no watermarks, limited features/capabilities. 100% free but with limited features (if you want those gone you pay for it). Especially, people seeking a LMS. Criteria. Offers plugins, add-ons.

Summer Course Authoring Tool Rankings – Top Ten

eLearning 24-7

Well, it is a fun product to create a course. This product achieves makes it happen, especially with a slick UI. Nothing like getting your blood boil when you see this ranking and can’t understand why the product is not number one. Feature wise the product has quite a bit, but my biggest gripe with Adobe is that this product always seems to be behind its top competitors.
