The only major players I saw were SmartBoard and QuestionMark Perception - perhaps this is a clue about the success of the trade exhibition. The discussion was rich and productive as a result. I had several frank and fruitful discussions with them about learning needs, technology trends and emerging pedagogies.

We are talking 338 LMSs in the worldwide marketplace (commercial systems) and 4 have an app you can download on the iTunes store to use with their product – sorry emTrain yours doesn’t count. They are happy to tell you however, that their product works with over 500 different devices. Productivity? Web Conferencing.

A good vendor will have what is sort of called a “sniffer&# , whereas the solution can identify whether it is a Blackberry or Iphone or whatever and automatically switch to the appropriate product. One is Questionmark. There are solutions in the assessment market that really look sharp on a mobile phone.

I’ve really been watching this space for the past two years, and while there continue to be enough products that fit within this category, I’m on the belief that this space is on the downside. I love Questionmark, its a wonderful product and it can use a “connector” to integrate into your learning platform or system.

On the other hand you have to purchase a copy for every computer that the package is installed on, manage all your own assets, and upload the finished product when it's done. will invariably have more sophisticated features and are quicker to use (because they don't have to keep sending messages back and forwards to a server).

SaaS authoring tools, well the ones I think are top-tier, are offering more and more templates than ever before, especially for B2B/B2C such as product training for example. I am a personal fan of Questionmark, which is in the latter group, but the UI needs a major update ( I am told it is on their roadmap for 2021).

A: I’m split on the fence with standalone assessment tools (example: Questionmark). However, the people I have spoken with at CoD tell me that Learning Cloud (the LMS) is their biggest seller in their product line. Most of them (not all), offer multiple capabilities beyond an assessment tool in say an authoring tool or a LMS.
