How to utilize technology to encourage remote productivity

As technology has grown and adapted in the last decade, so has the way that many individuals work. For instance, many employers are discovering that entire workforces can successfully work from the comfort of their homes, completing regularly assigned tasks as successfully as they would in the office.

However, as the trend of remote work has begun to grow in recent years, employers are striving to develop effective methods to ensure employees are well trained and on task throughout the course of their shift.

With the rapid growth of remote teams, there have been a variety of challenges that need to be faced for employers to ensure data security and productivity. Additionally, a variety of adaptive technology must be utilized in order to ensure each employee is able to effectively complete their assigned tasks. Therefore, it is vital that each teammate has access to the learning technology necessary for success.

Attempting to find solutions to these issues may put pressure on team leaders, especially as many companies are now rapidly transitioning to remote work. When willing to utilize the variety of available training and productivity software, however, teams can almost seamlessly transition from the office to their remote workspaces.

Adaptive learning technology for remote teams

While there are a variety of different productivity software types available for businesses to use, there are a few that will stand out and help employers keep their teammates on task, learn new skills, and adapt to a remote workplace. Some common technology used to improve remote work includes, but is not limited to:

  • Communication platforms, such as Slack, Zoom, and Lync. While some employers have previously shied away from the idea of providing open communication among employees, this can be vital to both individual success and company success, as it enables remote employees to engage with others, ask questions, and have an in-depth understanding of their work.
  • Project management tools, (like those created by Atlassian, or Monday.com) which allow individuals to see a timeline of tasks, due dates, and project expectations. Working remotely can cause a lot of disconnect, and many employees may feel uncertain of their role, goals, and expectations. This is why project management software can be vital to the success of a remote team, as they can clearly track objectives, changes, and potential setbacks and act accordingly.
  • Cloud computing and other forms of home document management software, which allow employees to access important training and project files from the comfort of their home and review these materials in a way that ensures both safety and productivity. Being able to easily access important files for projects, training, and other tasks ensure employees have the resources they need to understand and complete their daily tasks.
  • Learning management systems, which allow L&D professionals to create online training, employees to access all learning materials no matter where they are located, and companies to ensure the continuity of their business is not negatively affected by knowledge gaps.
