Let’s be clear: I’m not a hard-core developer. My primary motive in anything tech-related is to figure out how it will limit or enable design. That’s it. Here’s how to do it: 1) Get the bookmarklet. | ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS JULY 28, 2011 If Not ADDIE, Then What? Part 1: Thiagi’s 4-Door Model And though it provides a good framework for the structure of the course, it doesn’t say much about which information to include or how to design the interactions behind the four doors. Thiagi’s 4-Door Model describes a structure in which there are four entry points into the course: the library, the playground, the cafe, and the assessment center. Stay tuned. Diane Elkins is at DevLearn 2010 in San Francisco and attended Michael Allen’s special event to preview Zebra last night. Here are her thoughts. It really is that easy. | ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS OCTOBER 15, 2011 ID in the Wild: Community Building with Kelly Meeker of OpenSesame OpenSesame lauched at DevLearn 2010 and when I heard about it, my first thought was, “That’s a business model that depends on huge community awareness and involvement; you can’t get the purchasers without the providers and you can’t get the providers without the purchasers.” In this ongoing series , I’m posting examples of instructional design from around the web (or beyond). Each has something to learn from. . few weeks ago, I interviewed Kelly Meeker, OpenSesame’s community manager, about her job. Kind of like the Apple app store. Except for elearning. ~. ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS | SUNDAY, MARCH 24, 2013 How Designers Destroyed the World, by Mike Monteiro The gist: Don’t just take orders — take responsibility for the effectiveness of the solutions you’re providing and what effects they will have. Mike Monteiro is a designer who co-hosts one of my favorite podcasts, Let’s Make Mistakes , and occasionally, he gives public talks. Like this one: I nodded in agreement so often while watching that onlookers probably thought I was playing House music on my headphones. Use your power for good. That’s where many are starting from. ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS | MONDAY, MAY 20, 2013 ASTD-Cascadia and the CPLP 'In March, both ASTD-Cascadia and PSU (Portland’s provider of CPLP study courses) announced that they are suspending support of the CPLP program. Regrettably, I haven’t even been involved enough lately to know that this was under discussion until after it was announced, but I am proud of my chapter for this decision. Their concerns, which I share, seem to focus mainly on the work product process; I have additional issues with the content of the knowledge exam (which, for the record, I passed easily last year). Frankly, we see way too little of that in our field. MORE >> -
ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS | SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2012 Conference Experiences A couple of months ago, while at a planning meeting for TechKnowledge 2013, I got into a conversation with the other members of the planning committee about what provides the most value at conferences, and whether that is necessarily the same thing that attendees — especially first-time attendees — expect. The past two years have been pretty conference-packed for me, and I have learned a lot from sessions. But it’s the other stuff — the down time, the in-betweens, the meals and drinks, the experiences — that have really paid dividends. MORE >> -
