Kevin D. Jones and I are doing a session at Training 2010 titled Defining Your Social Learning Strategy. As prep for this, we’ve put together a comprehensive checklist of Social Learning Strategy topics that learning professionals and executives should consider when thinking through their objectives and plans. Here is a link to the doc, but if you would prefer to read it in-line, the full body of the doc is below. Introduction to Social Learning Strategies. | SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG MAY 11, 2009 The Truth About Twitter RT provides a mechanism for sharing great posts and information across networks. As more and more people began to share via shortened URLs, Twitter began to provide exponentially more value. Within 30 minutes, I had over 10 replies, many of whom offered to connect directly to provide more info. A few days ago, I reached that point where you can’t hear any more bullshit without correcting it. This post is not for those people who are just willfully ignorant or worse, active luddites who are resisting what Twitter is about just to resist change. Every major TM vendor now provides Recruiting, Compensation, Succession Planning, and Employee Development of which L&D is a piece. The further reality is that for the moment at least, LMS’s provide a lot more “social functionality than the “formal functionality that social apps provide. Crazy? | SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG SEPTEMBER 18, 2009 Social Learning Strategies, Models, and Roles The deck and the Word doc provide some additional explanation and descriptions, but I’ve also included the raw text here to make it easier to find via search: The ECCO Model. Plot the score for each category on the provided chart. I’m presenting a new deck tomorrow at a pretty big company. I’ve chronicled the history of this idea and related ideas in other posts. | SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG JUNE 6, 2009 Attribution in a Web 2.0 World Part 2 and the need to ruthlessly cite and attribute, not just to give credit to the original author, but to provide a way for your audience to dig deeper. Many moons ago I wrote a post about attribution in a web 2.0 As disappointed as I have been with mainstream media in this regard, my fellow bloggers are showing how it should be done. Check out this post by Daniel Stevens (@dstev on Twitter). While his whole post is a great model of attribution in this new world, I also think Daniel hits on a “big concept when he writes: I’m also talking to you, Jane Bozarth. In a web 2.0 | SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG MAY 17, 2010 Personal Brand, Professional Brand, and Perceived Bias in Social Media Dan Pontefract I think has provided one of the best and most professional responses to date, and I agree with about 90% of his post. So apprarently, my spirited defense about LMS value and role in the future of our industry has kicked off a lively debate. I’m glad. As I noted to Janet Clarey ( @jclarey ) a few nights ago on Twitter, I think it’s long overdue. will admit that I’m a bit disappointed by the lack of comment by other vendors. Do we mention what competitors are doing? Do we call them out by name and praise them for cool stuff? Can you contribute? | | | | | | | | | -
SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG | WEDNESDAY, MAY 27, 2009 ASTD / ISPI Social Learning Workshop But apparently, when the workers or customers define the vision about product and company direction, it’s not our job to facilitate that exchange or provide a platform for it. Hopefully the comments above will provide the necessary flavor and backstory. Last week, I had the opportunity to present at a combined ASTD / ISPI Social Learning workshop. A lot of it was a rehash of some of the other presentations I have done via webinars, but live and with an active audience. I really like having a live audience. My other argument was a bit more brutal. I get that. MORE >> -

So I guess the title gives it away, right? ; ) Today I start a new job at Learn.com as Executive Director of Product Maketing. I realize that this may surprise some, especially given my leadership of Mzinga’s social learning strategy. In the interest of focusing on the positive, I will only say one thing about my departure from Mzinga – it’s about talent management. MORE >> -
SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG | THURSDAY, JUNE 18, 2009 All Good Things… I’ll be forever be grateful for the opportunities that Mzinga and its predecessors have provided in developing my professional skills and my career.
