What’s Your Learning Tool Stack?

Seriously, this is important, as the tools we use and provide through the organization impact the effectiveness with which people can work. Instead, I coordinate with one group with Slack, a couple others with Skype and email, and am using Google Docs and email with another. Yeah, my life is exciting ;). What have I forgotten?

I think it’s a very interesting exercise, showing how we ourselves learn, and the fact that it’s been going on for a number of years provides interesting insight. Skype is a regular way to communicate with people, using a chat as a backchannel for calls, or keeping open for quick catch ups with colleagues.

The process was good too; the firm had organized a visit to their local (world class) research center, and were available (through a limited process) for questions.

Ludicrous, but ok I’m not a big phone person, and I can usually use Skype. I know that the providers think it’s not in their interest to work and play together well, but they’re missing the point that seamless data access benefits everyone. It’s what’s mobile is about: solving problems in the moment.

Skype would seem to be out because of the fat client download. So, how could I provide easy-to-use video chat to the users of a dating site?

How can you not see that social augments formal learning (Jane Bozarth has a whole new book on the topic) as well as provides new opportunities for informal learning and performance support? The ongoing debates around social media for learning flummox me. Maybe you have to be ‘in it’ to get it, but then, get in it.
