A lot of times, social media don't solve the underlying learning disabilities. Hence work on social media AND the practices is needed. Quick messages. Multitasking.

Use short polls to ask people's opinions Use an invisible behind the scenes team that helps you scanning the chat for questions etc. Go 'over the top' with your voice - it may not sound normal in a face-to-face conversations (this probably made me think it was a recorded tape I was listening to!)

Monitor progress Monitor progress by logging in frequently and reading or scanning most (all, depending on the pace) messages. Find people with different perspectives to contribute to conversations. Resolve conflicts. Facilitate or chair teleconferences or webinars if relevant. Use statistics.

Or scanning a wide variety of online forum to know what's happening in other fields (helps boundary crossing). What did I learn about lurking? First, most of all recognized that lurking can be very positive. Lurking into an online forum because you feel you are a novice can make you more expert.

Simply because the presentors are not comfortable with it or the majority of the audience may feel excluded.
