Hey Andy,

We are building training modules in our authoring tool, Articulate Storyline 360. We want to distribute these courses to learners through third-party LMSs, and one platform in particular requires LTI. Is there a way to host content and deliver our training in a way that allows us to connect to LMSs through LTI?

Thanks,
Distraught with delivery

Hey Distraught with delivery,

You’ve come to the right place as we help people distribute Articulate courses all the time. Articulate Storyline 360 makes it easy to create quality courses as a SCORM compliant package. If you need a refresher on the steps to publish, here’s a helpful guide. In order to deliver your newly created course to an LTI LMS, you’ll need a certified product that supports LTI to enable you to share your SCORM courses to any LTI platform or tool consumer. You’re in luck as we have a few options that can help, which I’ll go over next.

Content Controller

Content Controller lets you centrally host your training modules, whether you publish as SCORM, xAPI, AICC or cmi5, and seamlessly delivers them to any LMS that supports LTI v1.1 and v1.3. Content Controller allows you to automatically update versions, enforce content licenses, manage multiple languages and capture course data for reporting and analytics.

With Content Controller, you can share content (regardless of the standard) with LTI platforms. Your customer adds the courses to their LMS just as they would any other standards-based content. Upon launch, the learner will be directed to your content played via Content Controller’s content player. When the end-user exits or completes the course, they will return to their LMS. Content Controller handles sharing data about the course activity with their LMS.

Depending on your requirements, we can host Content Controller for you in a privately hosted environment or it can be deployed on your servers.

SCORM Cloud Dispatch

If you are open to a SaaS product, SCORM Cloud Dispatch is worth considering as it’s quite similar to Content Controller. Your SCORM content is hosted in your SCORM Cloud account, then the dispatch package becomes the LTI Tool to ensure your course can play in any LMS that supports LTI v1.1. You can set access limits by launch and/or expiration date. This is a great option to start immediately with no startup fees and has pay-as-you-go monthly plans. You can find pricing for SCORM Cloud here. Also, check out our comparison of Content Controller and SCORM Cloud Dispatch.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I’m happy to schedule some time to walk you through Content Controller and SCORM Cloud Dispatch to help you determine which one is the best fit for your needs.

Best,
Andy
