For without an in depth understanding of actual learners, their environment and work habits how can we expect learning tools to meet actual needs? 'Scared of first' - why business is resisting new learning.

OK, it's possibly not as bad as I've made it sound, but it's important to remember where we are now. Many businesses see learning as information transfer,therefore Powerpoint slides full of bullets and text are seen as an efficient and 'snazzy' way of transferring knowledge. Social media is seen as a 'fad'. Look, there is a long way to go!

create a multi-media presentation, full of images, video and sound, supported by me speaking and with a written take-away hand-out at the end. . I've got two options: create a written document that explains in words only what my new idea is and how it came to me. (or or a really boring powerpoint full of lots of words!).

The Powerpoint Dozen

I remember once watching a presentation with text zooming onto the slide accompanied by the sound of screeching brakes. Strictly limit the use of animated text. It doesn't help learning, it distracts from it. Not good (unless it was used just once to a tyre fitting business or auto company, but just once!). Use a remote.
