If the eLN was to provide a video stream and then archive the recordings it would, like Learning Pool, reach a much greater audience and much more effectively leverage the effort put in by organisers and speakers. In the case of the eLN, it is the cost of providing the video streaming. How do I. | DEVELOPER ON DUTY NOVEMBER 6, 2012 Streaming Video in eLearning - Pros and Cons When adding a video to your course, you must first decide if you want the video to be stored in the course content, contained in the course package itself, or use a streaming video service. Streaming video is for videos that have been placed on a streaming server. The reason for doing this is to limit the amount of lag time on the video. With streaming video the server does most of the work, so the delay is minimal. Whereas with non-streaming the video has to buffer before it plays. Clive, Live video streaming from conferences makes the assumption that conferences are all about delivering content. If I was in the conference organising business here's what I'd do: Get presenters to submit their presentations in advance as a video or narrated Articulate (or similar) package. Perhaps, if I was going for quality, this would be produced professionally, at a video studio, in front of a small live audience. Coaching. | | | | | | | | | -

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CURVE | THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2012 Live Streaming Test Results Better video streaming and audio quality than prior versions - by a lot. wouldn't wish video conferencing in Elluminate v10 on my enemies. We were also familiar with setup and sending meetings - so we can't really comment on the learning curve for video-meeting administration. On the broadcasting side, the video was choppy. However, the viewers reported that everything seemed smooth and audio/ video quality was decent. Chat and social streams are available, but they are awkward to get to in the interface. Because I know someone will ask. MORE >> -
BRAVE NEW ORG | MONDAY, MAY 16, 2011 Why Don’t You Have an Internal YouTube Video Sharing Service? The average user spends 15 minutes each day viewing videos. Sure, much of the content on YouTube may be coming from traditional media (clips of TV shows or movies, music videos, commercials, etc.) We have passed the so-called tipping point of online video sharing and viewing. In fact, with the April 8, 2011 announcement that YouTube will begin streaming live events, we’re well past the tipping point. There is also the perceived security issue concerning videos being stored on the cloud for some CIO’s, etc. Users spend roughly 2.9 security. MORE >> -

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CURVE | TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2012 Ad Hoc Live Streaming Test We are starting to see demand for Live Streaming services. We tested 5 tools - Elluminate, Google Hangouts, vTok (for the iPad), UStream, and ooVoo Yes - I know that some of these tools aren't designed to do live streaming, but we had it lying around. We asked our audience for feedback on the following : - Video latency - Does the video freeze? And their movie streaming. Relative video quality - we are using different web camera setups. And maybe video IT has a project underway that will address that formally. This is not that project. MORE >>
