I have been thinking and researching about how to enhance traditional virtual classroom platforms. Not so obvious are the improvements in terms of providing tools to the instructor to teach a particular subject effectively. The WiZiQ virtual classroom tool runs in Flash and contains many (although clearly not all) of the features associated with expensive commercial systems. Providing bandwidth for 1000s of virtual classroom sessions sounds expensive. WiZiQ have just launched their Live Class module for Moodle. Am I missing somethin

Virtual Classrooms) play a part. This is definitely not something new and the tools for this have existed for quite sometime. The tools range from the ever popular Webex , to the reasonably priced Adobe Connect Pro to the free and open source DimDim. The entry barrier into the domain of virtual classrooms is almost nil.

I've gotten many, many questions about this and finally have an answer. Here's a product with much of the functionality as the big boys: Chat, VOIP,video, and an object-oriented whiteboard (one of my favorite features, and one missing from several commercial products).
