As these thoughts were bouncing about my mind recalled a recent TED video of Sugata Mitra speaking on child-driven education. A very interesting video but for me the interest here is that children working together socially were able to learn what they needed to without anything that looked like traditional formal learning.

TEDxMelbourne - a great day of learning!

For example today I attended TEDxMelbourne, an event with a limit of around 100 attendees, at a TEDx day the format is that there are videos of TED talks and live talks, after each talk attendees break into small groups to discuss the ideas brought up by the talk. First up was a video talk by Juan Enriquez. And so it began.

Think of me watching films, TV, various videos, listening to music, reading books and blogs. create a multi-media presentation, full of images, video and sound, supported by me speaking and with a written take-away hand-out at the end. . At the end of me doing all this I have come up with an idea infused from all my sources.

Why do I write a blog?

A few months ago I saw this video (you may have seen it before) featuring Seth Godin and Tom Peters. I think about things in new ways. I learn more. I become more thoughtful. I leave some ideas behind and take on new ones. I hope I get other people thinking as well! I think this sums up why blogging is important.

Permission Learning - encouraging the informal

The ideal informal learning scenario is that workers have given their express permission for knowledge and skills updates/videos/etc to appear via links in their inbox. The worst scenario is when learning videos/information emails just appear unexpectedly and without permission, think spam!

My Personal Learning Environment

Today on Tony Karrer's blog, eLearningTech , I saw a video of Seth Godin and Tom Peters talking about blogging, the quote that stuck in my head was, "There is nothing more important than blogging in my life". That also helps to describe why this site is a personal learning environment, it makes me examine my ideas and thoughts.
