What I hear a lot is “L&D” and not training, when they identify who they are targeting for the tools, platforms, etc. SaaS authoring tools, trying to become hybrid Lite LMSs (a return of a trend I totally disliked back in 2010-2014). Instead of making a better SaaS authoring tool, a percentile of them, are using features you would see in an LCMS, a market that is minimal in today’s world, compared to say 2000 or even up to the mid 2000’s. .

I have always liked their Microsoft Office courses which appear as the software itself with tutorial capabilities of “show me, assist me, let me do it” angle. For example, I really don’t see an advantage of keeping courses for Microsoft XP or 2000. . Nor do I see an advantage of a leadership courses where the people in it are wearing clothes from the late 90’s or early 2000’s. Y o u may be sitting right now with third party content in your LMS.

If an LMS or any of the other subsets want to pitch themselves as a micro-learning system (first and foremost), fine, but let’s remember that nearly every system out there, allows you to create micro-learning courses (via a third party authoring tool, PPT, if they have an AT in their system, etc.), AICC – It’s passed it usefulness.
