In the early 2000’s right up to about 2012, trials were common in the learning system market. Not every vendor offered them, but more than enough did and consumers liked that. In the good ol’ days vendors listed trials on their web sites OR if you liked what you saw in the demo, you asked them via the phone or e-mail for a trial. For the vendor, it was a potential win, way better than no one reaching out to them at all.

We learn it with today’s gamification – I mean there is only one person at the top, the rest are beneath them. . I mention this, because in the e-learning world, there are winners and losers, albeit we do not call the vendors who lose out to a deal with a customer or an opportunity, losers. Integrations, Apps will rule – I expect integrations to be huge in 2015 – call it the year of integrations, but don’t expect the huge fanfare that is constantly displayed when folks mention gamification or mobile. Reality is it is going to happen with Tin Can, but there are more than enough vendors out there who are putting on the brakes for it, and yet are eyeing LRS more so (which according to the Tin Can folks, you need Tin Can before you can do a LRS).
