At one time, you could be “certified” with AICC and yes certified with SCORM, but why would you want to be? I’ve never heard someone say, “Sheesh, I need an LMS that is SCORM certified, or what your authoring tool is not AICC certified? I still see course libraries that are only AICC. Here is my take.

this would be down notable dropping topics: games, simulations, knowledge, interactive and blended Karyn Romeis commented: Hmm. For example, we see terms now at the top like Learning Management System , AICC , SCORM. Seems so long ago. :) How about 2005 ? I have doubts about the validity of these data.

However, they are leaders due to audience knowledge of their products (and I’m sure I will get e-mails from those not on the list, arguing they should be). PENS was created in 2005 by AICC as a new interoperability standard. In fact, a couple are lame. Ahem, drum roll. Yeah, it was great – YEARS AGO. Again, why?

In 2005, PENS was launched by AICC but did not initially gain wide acceptance. To me, the most exciting possibility in course standards is PENS, which was developed in 2005, but just recently is slowing appearing in a couple of authoring tools and some LMSs.
