Today I continue the retrospective with a review of the years 2003-2005. Music fans were delighted in June 2004 to witness the commercial launch of iTunes. The music industry quickly capitalised, and by December of the same year, online downloads (including iTunes) surpassed physical sales of music for the first time.

Web vs Apps: The Battle Rages On

In 2005 things seemed clear. The iTunes store proved to be a multi-billion market, and the Android store, albeit with a slow start, followed on. The Web was the undisputed king, and with the advent of AJAX and modern CSS, future software was going to be written for the browser. To some, this explosion of native apps was just a fad.
