by AJ George  A recent  question in the Microsoft Office forums  inquired about the process of animating a picture in PowerPoint so that it came onto the slide piece by piece--like a puzzle. Right-click the slide and select  Format Background. Your image will now be the background of the slide.

On the slide, right-click one of the puzzle pieces and choose  Format Object. Select everything on the slide (press [ Ctrl ] [ A ]). I was attempting to zip up a PowerPoint 2007 file and accidentally unzipped it to reveal a media folder that held all of the images I was using in my course. Now, keep in mind that this only works for PowerPoint 2007, but it’s still a cool trick, nonetheless. Extract the PowerPoint 2007 File. It was built with PowerPoint 2007.

Duplicate (Ctrl-D) will automatically copy and paste whatever slide you select and place it right below the original slide. It will be identical in every way to the previous slide. Copy, (Ctrl-C) will save a copy of the slide to your clipboard so that it can be pasted (Ctrl-V) elsewhere in the presentation.

Speaking of the guru awards, I was looking at the source files for the CPR demo and was impressed to see that it only contained twenty PowerPoint slides. Looking at it, I assumed that it had more slides and a few more bells and whistles. The first slide is a Flash animation and the CPR simulation was created in Quizmaker ‘09.

If you know that the first audio file ends after 1:35 and you'll be on your third slide then, then you would put the second audio file on the third slide and set it to play after 1:35.    Insert the audio file on the slide on which you would like the audio to begin ( Insert > Audio ).

Probably the most complicated aspect of using motion paths is continuing the motion from slide-to-slide. You want an image on your slide to move using a custom motion path. On the next slide you want the image to move from where it ended on the previous slide to a new location. Duplicate this slide ([Ctrl-D]).

The first track was 2 minutes long, but you trimmed it down to 15 seconds and set it to play across slides. Perhaps your plan was to play the first track when the presentation started, move to the second slide, let the track end and then have the second track start. What gives?!

On one slide you have an image fade in. Then when you click the image, it hyperlinks to another slide. Trying to reconstruct all of the animations and actions, as well as ensuring they're in the proper order with everything else on the slide, could be a disaster for you (or, at the very least, a small headache).

Maybe she reads faster than your slide thinks she does. . I don't think this applies just to giving a presentation, but also to eLearning. In theory I understand this. You want your audience to take in all of the information.

For some PowerPoint projects you may find that you would like to line up elements in a certain way and that having guides on the slide would be useful. Two guides appear on the slide by default (one vertical, the other horizontal). Most people who use the guides need things lined up at specific measurable spots on the slide.

An attempt at copying and pasting the slide using the Keep Source Fformatting option did not keep the chart's formatting. In PowerPoint (2007 or 2010), choose  Insert > Illustrations > Chart  (to open the Insert Chart dialog box.). In PowerPoint, select your chart on the slide.
