Learning in 3D: Virtual Book Clubs Leverage Technology for Expanded Learning

One of the things that Tony and I encouraged in our book, Learning in 3D was for the formation of "book clubs" to read the book. To that end, a number of virtual book clubs have surfaced regarding Learning in 3D. Tony and I created a hashtag for Twitter #lrn3d to begin discussions about the book on Twitter and the tag has been very successful but still that was started by the authors and was not really a "book club." The book club is under way.

With virtual worlds, we can expand the use of storytelling. In a 3D virtual world, the learner is not just observing a story or scenario, the learner becomes a character within the story. To create an effective story within a virtual world, you need to create the following elements: Characters -This would include the learner or learners. Adding these elements together in a virtual world learning event creates an effective story for learning.

What it means that MS LifeScience Award Goes to 3D Virtual Conference Design

Event By now you've probably already heard that the Microsoft Life Sciences Innovation Award 2010 has gone to a project that uses a 3-D virtual environment to hold a virtual scientific poster session. Results measured after the poster session demonstrated that the virtual environment was effective for scientific meetings and was well accepted by the current generation of scientists, suggesting that these environments can be used to deliver immediate value.
