Training Magazine: Back in Business!

Kapp Notes

Training Magazine which was officially closed in February partly because its owner could not find a buyer has once again "opened its doors." A buyer has been found and the magazine is back in business. Lakewood Media Group - part of Mach1 Business Media - has acquired Training magazine, its conferences and Training Top 125. Lakewood Publications was the original publisher of Training.

Top 10 eLearning Predictions for 2010

Tony Karrer

Before I start with any of my actual predictions, let me throw in an overall prediction that the year is going to start off slow for most people, but by the end of the year, we will all be thinking: “Wow, 2010 was a crazy year!” For example, Harold Jarche tells us 2010: Year of the CM.

A Podcast for Training Magazine

Vikas Joshi on Interactive Learning

Here is a summary of the podcas t I recently did with Training magazine Senior Writer Margery Weinstein about a better way to learn. Margery Weinstein: When you say "interactivity in training," what are you referring to? VJ: Learners are better engaged when their trainer establishes a two-way dialog. Monolog, as we know, is boring. This is true regardless of the learning modality – be it classroom instruction or e-learning.

The big question: predictions for 2010

Clive on Learning

The Big Question for January in the Learning Circuits Blog is, rather predictably, what are your predictions for 2010? In 2010, the pressure will reduce in many areas of the private sector, as the economy starts to recover and fear ceases to drive decision making.

It's Happening in the Learning Industry: Training Magazine and Web Site Shutting Down

Apparently, it is not just the newspaper business that is in trouble, the trade publication magazine business isn't so hot either. Training Magazine and the associated web site are being moth balled at the end of March. Training Magazine Closes and Now, it appears, So Do the Conferences

Kapp Notes

Just got this in an email: Regrettably, we have some unfortunate news to share with you: The Nielsen Company has made the decision to cease operation of Training magazine and Training magazine Events effective February 26. This will also be our last day with the company. For those of you scheduled to present at our upcoming Training Leadership Summit, we hope that a buyer will step in to continue the brand and that the Summit will go on as planned.

RIP Training Magazine

Tuesday morning brought the sad, but not surprising, news that 41-year-old Training Magazine will cease publication with its March 2010 issue. From my view, the magazine had been in a downward spiral since its sale by Lakewood Publications to VNU Business Media and then again to Nielsen Business Media. The struggle was evident: Those who subscribed to the print edition over the past few years can attest to its shrinkage from magazine to something more akin to newsletter.

Learning Solutions Magazine

Training Magazine made important contributions to our field. In the ‘80s and ‘90s, its editors, Jack Gordon, Chris Lee, and others, and contributors like Ron Zemke, were unafraid to tackle the tough issues as well as some of the silliness of the training and e-Learning field, and to accept articles that made you think. There is no question that the field has lost one of its most strident voices.
