Top 10 eLearning Predictions for 2010

Tony Karrer

Before I start with any of my actual predictions, let me throw in an overall prediction that the year is going to start off slow for most people, but by the end of the year, we will all be thinking: “Wow, 2010 was a crazy year!” For example, Harold Jarche tells us 2010: Year of the CM.

The World in Figures 2010

Clive on Learning

I was pleased to receive a complimentary copy the other day of the Economist’s Pocket World in Figures for 2010. The cities with the highest quality of living are mostly in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. As someone who revels in statistics, this was an irresistible read. There’s lots of great stuff in there, but I’ve pulled out a few which are of relevance to learning and technology (excuse my UK focus): Of the world’s top 10 universities, four are British and the rest American.

Quality is a subtle distinction

Clark Quinn

Quality design is hard to distinguish from well-produced but under-designed content. But if there’s a Great eLearning Garbage Patch , it gets harder to pitch quality. I had the (dubious) pleasure of picking up an award for a client at an eLearning awards ceremony a number of years back. There’s been some apt criticism of the whole awards industry thing overall, but it did give me a chance to see what was passing as award-winning content. And I was dismayed.

Quality or Quantity: What matters in the learning business.

ID Reflections

Quality, in spite of all the parameters, remains largely unmeasurable. But Quality, that indefinable something, remains for most part undervalued. But in this business of learning that we are in, quality has to be of paramount importance. Fast Good Cheap! Pick any two! We are all familiar with this.Gradually my years of experience has taught me that the first thing to be sacrificed at the altar of business is "good". Good is a subjective, an often intangible measure.

What Gets Measured Gets Done.or Not

The Peformance Improvement

We measure student academic performance in schools, but it doesn't improve the quality of teaching and schools for most kids. We measure every aspect of the health of Americans, but it doesn't change access and quality of care for most Americans. Toyota has been the benchmark company for measuring quality of its products and processes, but it failed to ensure the safety of its brakes. "What gets measured gets done."
