Challenge to Learn

This week I have attended a seminar about change management. The speakers were all leading men from the Dutch field of change management (Boonstra, de Caluwe, Wierdsma, Homan and Peters). For me Jaap Peters was the one I knew the least of, but he turned out to be the most surprising and inspiring. I noted some great quotes from him. The title of this blog was one of them. I find this quote interesting because it reminds you that people have very different views on change.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: Mindflash.com Version – Product Review

eLearning 24-7

The only time I have in 12 yrs of e-learning seen a person’s name and e-mail address on a course was in an Instructor led training class – in a classroom, seminar or workshop. At a workshop or seminar? I love Halloween. It is one of my favorite times of the year. I deck out the house with special effects, ghostly lights, the whole works. Signs that say, “warning&# , “stay back&# “not for the faint of heart&#. Classic.

The introduction to the seminar slide on the classroom screen, with the trainer’s name, maybe their photo and sometimes e-mail address. Trainers love it, but this is WBT – “e-learning&# , not “classroom/seminar training&#. Mindflash.com bills itself as a training management system, with the ability to create and upload courses, invitee end users (learners) and track results.

WBT – What is Happening?

eLearning 24-7

Studies have shown that on the average a person retains 8-10% from an ILT class/seminar/workshop. They are use to ILT and this is how long the seminar/class/workshop is going to be – time wise!). The real value of e-learning and specifically WBT has somehow become entangled into this morphed methodology of creating asynchronous courses (WBT that is fully self-contained – everything is in it), following an ILT (instructor led training) approach.
