There’s a limit to what it can track. SCORM lets you monitor basic data like whether a learner has completed a module and their overall score, but it won’t let you track anything more detailed than that. It can’t track progress. AICC’s tracking and reporting mechanism are very limited. What about xAPI? Ease of use.

xAPI has become the valid standard for tracking all types of learning external to the LMS, yet I still haven’t developed a project, even a portfolio piece, using xAPI. They may be aware of xAPI or cmi5 but are not ready to shift. I think we are still in an education phase of what the benefits of xAPI have over SCORM.
