A calling to a large number of vendors (small, medium and big), are all reporting strong numbers in January, with many saying that January 2011, was their best month – numbers and business wise, in the last few years. In my experience, small businesses (500 or less users) are the ideal audience for a low cost system. This does not mean that anyone who has more than 5,000 users should be a system in the low cost mode, but rather these systems are definitely suited to this business size. These are folks who are going to use your system.

I would estimate that there was a 60-40 split, still instructor led driven, but even a significant number of the ILT vendors were offering subsets or capabilities to turn their ILT into online via webinars or online courses. Mind you, there is nothing wrong with doing so, and there are some nice advantages to it – mainly one stop shop, but if you are a LMS vendor who does not have an authoring tool built-in, it will not cause your demise. Systems have come a long way from the days of yesteryear. Security is quite strong for SaaS systems.
