You might be surprised to find out we’re in 2nd gear. We shifted out of 1st gear at DevLearn last year. Between November 2014’s xAPI Hyperdrive and the xAPI track at DevLearn 2014, we hit our stride.

Stop Choosing the High Chair

MakingBetter

I’ve spent a lot of time over the last four years learning how to talk about xAPI to senior leaders in organizations. Throughout my career, many Managers and Directors above me in various Learning Departments didn’t know how to talk to their C-Suite leaders.

The 3rd Gear

MakingBetter

As xAPI shifts into 3rd gear , with an early majority comes a need for a consortium that will steward xAPI into perpetuity — a table for other industries to sit and work out the ways xAPI will meet their particular needs.

Two Years of xAPI

MakingBetter

Sunday, April 26, marked two years since xAPI was released. It was released with much celebration and promise. I went back and looked through my old blog to see what I said about it back then… and apparently I was mute on the subject. The post written for ADL was pretty matter-of-fact.

iFest and xAPI Profile Servers

MakingBetter

We’ve been hard at work the last few months identifying what an xAPI Profile Server should do beyond the basic requirements in the xAPI Profile Specification as part of a BAA with ADL. Last week we took the show on the road to iFest in Washington DC. We brought along a poster which explained why […]. The post iFest and xAPI Profile Servers appeared first on MakingBetter. Filling in xAPI’s Most Important Gaps

MakingBetter

2017 is a year that is really testing our capacities and limits. Politics, natural disasters, cyber security threats, budgets… even ADL has hit some road bumps. We formed the Data Interoperability Standards Consortium (DISC) a few years ago specifically to hedge against disruptions to ADL’s capacity for spec stewardship so that the people who rely […]. Getting Started. Over the last few months, it’s become pretty clear to us at MakingBetter that the Experience API has finally reached some sort of tipping point. No longer do we get questions about what the Experience API is.

Gearing Up For xAPI Camp – Amazon

MakingBetter

I’m really excited about this xAPI Camp, only partially because I grew up on a farm in the-middle-of-nowhere, WA and there’s a bit of home state pride. The line-up of speakers and discussion leaders at this event is stellar! There will be big ideas and challenges from: Mark Oehlert (Manager, Learning Technology, Networked Learning, Amazon) on the opportunities for xAPI in enterprise.

The tl;dr : Like hardware, w hen it comes to data, if you can’t open it, you don’t own it. If you can’t open it, you don’t own it. I was recently asked to respond to a question, “What were the objectives of the Experience API?”

xAPI Camp: Toronto is the new Brooklyn

MakingBetter

There’s a band called JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound who are determined that Baltimore is the new Brooklyn , but we’re nominating Toronto. We’re taking xAPI Camp to Toronto on November 17th, 2015 and we are excited about it, to boot. This camp will be co-located with the Canadian Society of Training and Development’s annual conference. The CSTD 2015 Conference & Trade Show runs 11/18-11/20. This is the first camp outside of the US and the Canadian following of xAPI is strong.

Standard Options Apply

MakingBetter

This post is for vendors, developers and implementers of the Experience API and for anyone who may one day create something with xAPI. The choices made soon will ultimately impact what you will be able to do with xAPI 3, 5 and 20 years from now. I’m going to lay out options for how we can approach standardization and the reasoning behind them.

What You Missed at TRYxAPI – ATD ICE

Riptide Software hosted a fantastic event on Saturday for the launch of TRYxAPI.com. What is Connections: xAPI?

MakingBetter

UPDATE: Connections: xAPI is cancelled for March 2015. We simply don’t have the capacity at this time to deliver the event we want to host and the experience you as a participant deserve. We may well do something like a conference or a “camp” around xAPI and as we get ready, if you’re on our mailing list or contact us , we’ll keep you posted. Super exciting! Speaker: Jerry Zandstra, Co-Founder, Inno-Versity, and Miriam Taylor, Chief Learning Strategist, Inno-Versity

One hundred thousand dollars spent on learning will not be available to spend on marketing or hiring, or any one of several dozen other budget items. Join Miriam Taylor and Dr. Jerry Zandstra as they take a look at learning, training, and development from the C-suite perspective!
