In Memory – Corporate Instructional Designers

eLearning 24-7

Instructional designers were getting ready to be in high demand, especially in the corporate world. Instructional technologists was a term, many folks had heard of. The dominating authoring tool by far, was Authorware. I went with a Hybrid form of ADDIE.

Michael Allen, the CEO of Allen Interactions, is known for pioneering multimedia learning technologies, interactive instructional paradigms, and rapid-prototyping processes—bringing each forward into leading corporate enterprises. He was the founder and CEO of Authorware, a revolutionary eLearning authoring tool. Authorware merged with MacroMind/Paracomp to become Macromedia, which was later acquired by Adobe. ZebraZapps provides and enhances many of Authorware’s innovations.

Wanted – Instructional Designer

eLearning 24-7

How many of you out there today are looking to hire an instructional designer? How many of you, have experience in instructional design but only from the ILT or paper-based perspective? How many of you, are familiar with terms such as ADDIE? I self taught myself Instructional Design back in 2000. Anyone who used Authorware can attest to that. Ask them if they know what ADDIE stands for? Talent.

A Conversation with Michael Allen–ADDIE, SAM & the Future of ID

Kapp Notes

Allen is a leader in the field of design, developing and delivering online instruction. He founded the computer-based course authoring tool Authorware in 1984 and later formed Macromedia through a merger which was then bought by Adobe Systems. He has just released a new book, Leaving Addie for SAM: An Agile Model for Developing the Best Learning Experiences in which he describes what he calls the Successive approximation Model (SAM). Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Memoirs of an "Instructional Designer"

Learning Visions

Cammy Beans Learning Visions Musings on eLearning, instructional design and other training stuff. Thursday, April 26, 2007 Memoirs of an "Instructional Designer" I dont have a masters degree in instructional design or education. My current business card says Im a "Manager of Instructional Design". I have learned everything I "know" about instructional design and teaching by doing. I was a SME turned instructional designer.

The King is Dead

eLearning 24-7

The King was pushed over the walls by poor design, irrelevancy to the subject and ghastly to say, indifference among various vendors. When courses were needed to be developed and built, anyone who came upon this challenge, realized that the importance of comprehension, retention and synthesis, would be based on the design, mechanisms and delivery of said content. But the King of Content was not worried, for the goals of design and delivery still existed.

Lessons from the past

dVinci Interactive

For the first time instructional designers could do more than simple page-turner training. Now instructional designers weren’t constrained by the limited functions in programs like IconAuthor. Other technological improvements followed rapidly – Windows 95 was a game-changer, as was the introduction of the PC authoring system Toolbook along with cross-platform tools like Director and Authorware.

Lesson 140

Three Takeaways Today

eLearning 24-7

They took a premise of strong course design that allows interactivity and engagement, with knowledge of ADDIE or at least some basic ID understanding, and flipped it into a PPT template so that you can create quickly your courses and get them online. Hodgepodge.

Creating successful e-learning

Clive on Learning

The creator of Authorware and long-time instructional design guru created something of a stir (at least with me) when he announced his dissatisfaction with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model for e-learning development and put his not inconsiderable weight behind a new process of 'successive approximation'. ADDIE, rapid? Including learners in design meetings?

Straight talk - am I the only one enjoying myself?

Clive on Learning

I saw three of the interviews: Michael Allen (creator of Authorware and of ADDIE - the instructional design process): he told us that he's no longer so convinced about ADDIE - he's into rapid prototyping. Great stuff - wait until I tell those instructional design dinosaurs I know. By the way, I've just discovered Jay Cross's rant on ADDIE - even rapid prototyping is not enough for Jay.

Preference of E-Learning – Structured or not?

eLearning 24-7

For the folks who were instructional designers, some cases yes, others no. And knowledge of any ADDIE or another modalities, not needed. . For the authorware supporters this was akin to blasting the planet with gamma rays. Trends are funny.
