This week we wanted to discuss one of the most common instructional design models, ADDIE. ADDIE is an acronym for a model of instructional design and development. Let’s look at ADDIE in more detail to find out whether it could work for you, your project and your client. Clearly stating your learning goals at the beginning will help you define the roadmap for your course. Typically, in the Design phase you will: Write learning objectives.

Definitions: Alternatives to the ADDIE Instructional Design Model

There are a number of alternatives to the ADDIE instructional design model which are not considered or given much due in the “main stream” ID press. However, I think more than a process for creating instruction; it is the application of instructional strategies that really is the heart of designing effective learning interventions. It is the strategies that we apply to the materials we are teaching that make learning effective or not effective.

ADDIE: A conceptual and iterative application model for instructional systems design; the components include: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Analysis: First phase of ADDIE. Blended Learning: Also referred to as hybrid learning. Cognitive Strategies: Specific methods used to solve problems, including reasoning, planning, rehearsal of newly learned information, and relating newly-learned information to existing knowledge.
