I/ITSEC is right around the corner! Billed as the world’s largest modeling, simulation and training event, we always enjoy attending this massive event filled with everything from fog machines to full aviation simulations. There’s always something new to see, and we’re happy to provide guidance on making all those technologies (minus the fog machine) play nicely together.

But this year, we’re especially excited that we’re presenting a tutorial for the first time! Join Brian Miller on Monday, Nov. 28, at 2:30PM EST as he walks through the basics of cmi5 and how you can transform your training by converting existing SCORM content to cmi5.

Sessions we’re interested in

I/ITSEC brings with it some of the best papers and tutorials centered around military training and technologies. This conference, we have our eye on a few sessions centered around interoperability, learning ecosystems and the Total Learning Architecture (TLA). View the I/ITSEC full program and sort by keywords, like cmi5, to find sessions.

Transform Your Training by Migrating Content to cmi5 (From C to Shining C track)

Brian J. Miller, Rustici Software
Monday, Nov. 28 | 2:30-4PM EST

The Department of Defense is looking to modernize training and has stated that cmi5 is one of the paths to achieving that. Brian walks through what cmi5 is, how it fits into the TLA and where to start with moving legacy SCORM content to cmi5.

Practical Guide to Learning Engineering (Best tutorial track)

Sae Schatz, Ph.D., and Jim Goodell
Monday, Nov. 28 | 2:30-4PM EST

Focusing on introducing what learning engineering is, this tutorial walks through how using science, engineering and data to make informed decisions helps to support learners and their development.

Enhancing the Total Learning Architecture for Experiential Learning (Best paper session 1 track)

Leaders at EduWorks, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, The University of Texas at Austin, and Yet Analytics
Wednesday Nov. 30 | 11:30AM EST

This paper discusses how xAPI, LRSs and other technologies play a central role in collecting training and how that data, captured over time, can be used to make evidence-based decisions for training. These are all key to seeing the TLA mature.

Technology is the Easy Part: Transforming Business Processes for Interoperability (It’s about the Data – and the Standards too! track)

Andy Johnson, ADL, Ashley Howell, ADL, Sae Schatz, Ph.D., Bedrock Learning, Inc., Lora Muchmore, DoD, and Anne Marie Dinardo, SimIS
Thursday, Dec. 1 | 10:30AM EST

The DoD is moving away from legacy learning technologies to systems that are more interoperable. This paper by the DoD, ADL and industry leaders discusses technology modernization barriers with a focus on interoperability and proposes approaches to overcome them.

International Perspectives on Creating and Sustaining Learning Ecosystems in the Wild (Focus event)

Panel of leaders throughout the military and government
Thursday, Dec. 1 | 10:30AM EST Special event

With the number of systems and learning technologies organizations are using, we’re big proponents of organizing your learning ecosystem in order for it to be more manageable. This special event with a panel of global government officials will describe their development process, the aspects and features they wanted to include and lessons learned while creating their own ecosystem.

Harnessing the Power of Data Analytics to Optimize Training (PDW 1)

The Boeing Company speakers
Friday, Dec. 2 | 8AM EST

This interactive workshop will explore how new technologies and emerging standards, including xAPI, enable the collection of data from a variety of training sources and the challenges and opportunities this presents in terms of data analysis. The goal is for participants to discuss common and emerging data analytics methods as they relate to training data.

Does anyone have a DeLorean or Time-Turner handy for Brian and Chris Tompkins to make it to so many events? They’re going to need one along with our friends at ADL who will be speaking on a variety of topics. If you’re attending I/ITSEC, which sessions are you looking forward to the most (in addition to Brian’s, of course)? Along with all these great sessions, Chris and Brian are looking forward to catching up with our friends working in the defense sector. Schedule a time to meet with them during I/ITSEC.

We have you covered even if you aren’t able to attend but want to learn about cmi5. Watch the “Whose Standard is it Anyway?” webinar recording to find out more about how cmi5 compares to SCORM and xAPI. It’s the webinar where the questions are commonly asked and the points matter for your content. Or if you’re looking for more technical answers on how to migrate your existing SCORM content to cmi5, you’ll want to catch the “Smelling What The Rock is Cooking” presentation we did for the xAPI Party. We’re always happy to answer any cmi5 questions you have.
