What is the plan for DISC, xAPI, and ADL?

Towards the end of last year, our big announcement was the formation of the not-for-profit Consortium formed to handle the governance and address the evolution of xAPI with/for ADL. doesn’t require ADL’s permission for us to do this. All the same, ADL’s done an amazing job stewarding xAPI through its R&D roots to now and to whatever degree we can work in concert with ADL (and US DoD, by extension) it’s to our collective benefit to do so.

The Building Blocks of a Successful e-Training Program

ICS Learning

The Building Blocks of a Successful e-Training Program. An authoritative whitepaper on how to plan, implement, and evaluate an e-learning program for your business. Like any corporate initiative, the training program should have a stated mission and a set of business objectives that are well defined. The plan will also need to include a business analysis that identifies the costs and benefits of the training program. Prepare a business case for the training program.

Tin Can API & the Future of E-Learning

Learnnovators

Here is a quick re-cap on this learning standard, before we take a closer look at some of the use cases: Experience API is a new (and evolving) e-learning specification that makes it possible to collect data about the wide range of learning experiences a person goes through (both online and offline). This standard is being developed by Rustici Software (with a world-wide active community participating and contributing) for Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) – the keepers of SCORM.

The ongoing work of learning standards

Litmos

The Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative of the Department of Defense finally had enough. The ADL provided compliance testing, so that content and systems could be validated for interoperability. If we need to track compliance, we may need to know not only that the person completed, but the amount of time spent or the successful completion. ADL decided to create a new standard, the Experience API (xAPI; originally known as Tin Can).

I write tonight grateful for a true partner like Megan, grateful for each and every client we had this year, grateful for each and every person who’s influenced how we do what we do, grateful for our sponsors and our partners and especially…. xAPI is so successful that it’s actually becoming a challenge for ADL to support it to the scale it now demands. ADL now has dozens of high priority projects and there are maybe six full-time engineers they can resource for xAPI.

So you can track things like which device someone started a program on and if they moved to a tablet and then if they moved back…you can see resolution and pixel depth.
