Clarifying how xAPI relates to platforms, monitoring and testing

Experience API

Is xAPI installed on a platform? When it comes to how xAPI relates to platforms, xAPI is a communication and data model protocol specification that defines a Learning Record Store (or LRS). A simple, spec-based LRS can act like a “platform” by itself. But for it to be a full-featured platform, the spec-based LRS would need to have additional tools added on to it. Recently, we received an inquiry from someone who was trying to make sense of xAPI.

Mike Rustici – Crystal Balling with Learnnovators

Learnnovators

The ADL vision is actually looking this far out in the future. Being part of the DoD, ADL is considering how to provide soldiers on the battlefield with the information they need at the precise moment of need, thus increasing their performance in the field and saving lives. At the recent ADL Plugfest event, we identified creating “recipes” of best practices for statement structures as one the essential next steps for the community.

Choosing Mobile Learning Solutions Using Standards

JCA Solutions

The only challenge would be having to create an app for each mobile platform. We did not create this, it is a proof of concept created by Advanced Distributed Learning ( ADL ) and made freely available. First you will want to create a free account on ADL’s sample Learning Record Store (LRS). To see the results after you install it and test it, use the ADL Statement Viewer. A sample of this type of implementation is available from ADL and is called Dual Tracking.
