I asked Andy Johnson of the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative for his take on the issue as a leading expert in xAPI. They can’t predict what you’re going to care about with the exception of completion data. It completely misses the point of adopting the xAPI standard.

For the current ADL webinar series on mobile, I gave a presentation on contextualizing mobile in the larger picture of L&D (a natural extension of my most recent books). And a question came up about whether I thought wearables constituted mobile. Which means they need to be as context-independent as possible.

And ADL has published new BAA requests , and we’re considering those. So, for the time being, please accept my apologies for naively predicting I would have something conclusive to say a week later. There’s good work happening at the IEEE LTSC TAG xAPI , and we’re doing a bit of it. But mostly, we’re patient.

I’ve spent a lot of time over the last couple of weeks learning about some things that are happening with ADL (the governing body for SCORM and closest thing we currently have to a single steward for xAPI right now). Some funding things happened at ADL, but ADL will continue to do work on xAPI and with the xAPI community.

One of the most interesting items which presents to me an unknown variable is CMI-5, a compliance standard (formally with AICC) now headed up by ADL. 10 Predictive Analysis or LMS AI (Artificial Intelligence). If your LMS isn’t doing any predictive analysis, don’t fret about it, because I see real growth in this in 2015.
