Track and trace Learners results. What do SCORM compliance, AICC, XAPI and CMI5 mean?

Challenge to Learn

Do you want to buy a LMS or an authoring tool and are you wondering what the best option is for tracking the results of your learners? SCORM is a standard in e-Learning that makes it possible to track and trace the results of your learners in a Learning Management system (LMS). A course is SCORM compliant when it meets the requirements of the standard set by the ADL. XAPI allows tracking and tracing from anywhere. XAPI will still track and trace the results.

Choosing Mobile Learning Solutions Using Standards

JCA Solutions

With a wider variety of ways we could deliver learning experiences, combined with the desire to support and track performance, things had to change. That could lead to some SCORM tracking issues. Another alternative would be performance tracking or real time evaluation tool. We did not create this, it is a proof of concept created by Advanced Distributed Learning ( ADL ) and made freely available. Using Standards Separately or Together for Effective Mobile Learning.

Part One: How We Decide to Do Work

Experience API

A couple of days ago, I wrote about the state of ADL and Rustici Software’s take on it. We wrapped a little bit of code and interface around our core product (SCORM Engine), labeled it SCORM Test Track, and shared it. Those debug logs, and Test Track, have had real, lasting, positive impact, for both the community and for us at Rustici Software. ADL’s guiding hand. ADL decides what is in – in scope, in the spec, in the agenda for the specification meetings.

An LRS is an integral element in the process flow for utilizing the Experience API (xAPI) standard by ADL (Advanced Distributed Learning). LRSs can transmit learner data to other systems, including other LRS servers, mobile devices, sensor-enabled devices, and LMSs.

The rise of mLearning has also driven adoption of the Tin Can xAPI eLearning content standard which can track far more learning activities than older standards like SCORM. If a self-hosted solution is selected, the team must decide how major applications, like servers, databases and load balancers, are resourced and budgeted. SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model): A set of standards developed by Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) and applied when developing LMS content.

What’s the best SCORM compliant LMS to choose in 2020?

Elucidat

If it’s not certified by ADL, which SCORM API elements are supported? ADL is the governing body for SCORM. For an LMS to be SCORM-certified, it needs to have passed ADL’s testing process. You’re ready to get your elearning out to learners. You know you need a SCORM-compliant LMS.

Got SCORM?

ICS Learning

Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) has the complete specification (all 400+ pages of it) readily available on their site, but I was looking for a quick, “get your hands dirty” explanation that skipped all the mumbo-jumbo and would let me dive in and start trying things out. The SCORM specification, developed by Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL – [link] is a set of rules that learning management systems (LMS) and learning content follow in order to be compatible with each other.

Ask a learning architect: Is it time to break up with your LMS?

CLO Magazine

Has it gotten difficult to keep track of all of the workarounds needed to get your LMS to fulfill your needs? In practice, that means a vendor-locked, monolithic, server-based application (like an old-school LMS) no longer passes muster.

Q&A - eLearning Standards Especially SCORM

Tony Karrer

You want to implement your courseware to the SCORM standard if you plan to have it launched and/or tracked under an LMS. One case is building a one-off course that needs simple tracking/reporting and will never run under an LMS. If you won't ever need to run it under an LMS, then SCORM is overhead you don't need (see Tracking Without an LMS ). In these cases, I'm not tracking and likely it's not under the LMS.

What are SCORM and AICC, By the Way?

CommLab India

For instance, a SCORM-compliant e-learning course can be hosted on and tracked by any LMS which complies with the SCORM learning standard. This model was developed as part of the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative to address the interoperability, reusability, and durability challenges of online learning courses of the United States Department of Defense (DoD). Content and LMS must be on the same server. Content and LMS can be on separate servers.
