The ongoing work of learning standards

The problem with committee work is well known; in this case vendors who participated wanted the standard to make it easy for their content to be made compliant. The Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative of the Department of Defense finally had enough. Vendors got on board, and SCORM became a more-or-less viable mechanism.

ADL xAPI Conformance Test Launches, SCORM Cloud and SCORM Engine are Conformant LRSs

Recently, ADL (the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative) launched the xAPI Adopter Registry , which lists xAPI Adopters and Conformant LRSs. The LRS Test Suite is extensive, covering 1,300 strict criteria that ensures true adoption of the xAPI specification and therefore guarantees interoperability across eLearning systems.

Clarifying how xAPI relates to platforms, monitoring and testing

There is a publicly available OSS testing framework, called the LRS Conformance Test Suite, and web tool for testing an LRS, which can be automated. As such, all major, recognizable LRS vendors use the testing tool to ensure their LRS conforms to xAPI. The LRS available via our SCORM Cloud product also undergoes this type of testing.
