The spectrum between synchronous and asynchronous training

Matrix

The current pandemic is essentially fast boarding the planet 10 years into the future with regard to the adoption of internet technology, whether we’re talking about online education, or all the types of businesses moving their activities remotely. The very first step to take when designing asynchronous training experiences for remote learners is to decide where exactly on the synchronous-asynchronous spectrum the new online training course needs to be. Synchronous remote.

The importance of synchronicity

Clive on Learning

Over the past couple of months, I have twice been fortunate enough to hear Professor Stephen Heppell speak, once at the 25th birthday party of the eLearning Network and again last week when I chaired his session at Learning Technologies. On both occasions, the idea that most got me thinking was that 'synchronous is sovereign'. Having said that, I'm not convinced that synchronous events are all that exciting when the experience is no different from a recording.

With changing technology and more importantly, changing learner needs, LMSs too are now evolving to increase their scope and impact on workplace learning. As users get exposed to the best in technology in every other aspect of their work, they expect the same from the LMS as well. For instance, the LMS should be synchronized with other existing systems within the organization like the HRMS. Archaic design is as unacceptable to the modern learner as is archaic technology.

Webinar Software - Adoption Advice

Good question about adoption of webinar software / services - this time from someone who went to my workshop in Cincinnati - Revolution in Workplace Learning - who by the way - called it "awesome." Our webinars have been successful by our standards and for the most part, we've been early adopters of the technology. Anyone have concern about adopting Adobe Connect vs. the myriad of other solutions out there? I personally often adopt whatever is most easily available.
