Oh, and not the first vendor I’ve seen this route, but that was more than a decade ago. Well, I guess for ILT, and even then as time has evolved, it hasn’t. There are vendors who pitch they have it, and there are folks who oversee L&D who still believe in it. One Term that Should be Kicked to the Curb.

In other words, some vendors say our content is micro and each piece is three minutes long. With vendors pushing micro-content you rarely see a TOC (Table of Contents), which is very doable, and honestly better for the learner. Nowadays most of the 3rd party content has an audio overlay or what is referred to as a V/O (voice-over).

Video/Audio files. Some interactivity – comes in the form of audio, maybe a video shoved in there, an exercise/activity or two and text. Medium in length – defined by the vendor. Let me repeat something very important – I had the 3rd party provider work directly with the LMS vendor to load the courses.

Also SCORM 1.2 & AICC. Sure, other vendors will say you can do that too, but you have to open each object file to get it. Comes with a screen capture tool, spell checker (many RCATs do not), Slide audio recording & editing. Many vendors hyping PowerPoint to Flash angle as key feature. LMS, web, CD, etc.,

Ability to have video with audio on the main screen, whereas end users enter – after logging in. Many people today prefer 3rd party authoring tools and in fact, I recommend that route rather then using a vendor’s built in authoring tool. SCORM, AICC. Admin side – simple to find sections, easy drill down.
