Development Tools - Should I Cut Out the Middle Guy?

Back when I first started developing e-learning courses, I used Macromedia's Authorware. For more interactive elements, I used Flash and imported the SWFs into Authorware. These courses can be published as SCORM or AICC compliant courses. Over the years, I have used ToolBook, Trainersoft, and even Dreamweaver with Coursebuilder.

We needed (outdated) standards to run our course in a LMS and track results from our learners. To make things worse we also had competitive standards (Scorm and AICC). First of all it is about tracking and tracing experiences not just formal learning outcomes, that is a big one. Aaron is the guy that changed all that.

And yes, folks running Training and L&D would take that data via the evaluation, and compute numbers to track the trends (or they should have) and what worked and didn’t work, based on the data. Other fun tidbits AICC was the leader here, then came SCORM. It was flawed. Instructional design was actually being used.

And now, because of eLearning Learning , I have a much better way to track these things over a much more interesting content sets. For example, we see terms now at the top like Learning Management System , AICC , SCORM. I still maintain that it's helpful to keep an eye on these things. Seems so long ago. :) How about 2005 ?
