What about AICC? Unless you purchased a tool that is only AICC compliant, which in that case, time to ditch it and get another one. If you purchased an AICC only, then you have to find a system that is AICC compliant. It can be SCORM too, but the AICC is the key. . What about PENS or some other compliance standard? Unless you must have PENS or one of the other compliance standards, it is not needed.

This is a growing market with new vendors showing up, but at the same time, others disappearing. While the assumption would be that all the products are alike, or that fee based tools are superior to their free counterparts, nothing could be farther than the truth. Macromedia Authorware and similar products. Sure there are over 100 vendors in this industry and probably 95% you have never heard of and whom have great products that can meet or beat the big players.

I’ve even seen it with LMS vendors. At one time, you could be “certified” with AICC and yes certified with SCORM, but why would you want to be? I still see course libraries that are only AICC. There are LMS vendors who no longer accept AICC.

Product training becomes real – they interact, engage and see it in real time, rather than a static experience. Expect a few commercial vendors to jump into the augmented reality space for e-learning.

Of course it can still look lame – the course that is – but that isn’t because of the product, rather umm (well you know who). 19 Zenler Studio - I liked this product last year (2012) and I still find it quite favorable. Easy to use interface and supports SCORM and AICC. #18 A few vendors say “social learning” but it is often far from it. AICC, SCORM and PENS support. Supports AICC and SCORM. This product does it.

elearning maker - another product form e-doceo; screenwriting, storyboards, media inserts, selection and moving of elements plus more; a beginner could use some of the features, but a developer has some additional capabilities and flexibilities. Articulate Storyline – Great product – read my review here - yeah, they pitch it for masses and yeah they can do some things, but this is really for developers and instructional designers. Tools these days come in three flavors.

Bewildered on what is happening, why what is needed isn’t appearing as it should, and how is it possible that something so obvious based on where e-learning is heading, mobile is pushing and future tech is inspiring is lost among so many vendors? Confusion leads to flushed in terms of causation that some vendors in their infinite wisdom have decided it is better to jump one way than stay the course. At least SCORM support – Plenty still support AICC.

I’ve really been watching this space for the past two years, and while there continue to be enough products that fit within this category, I’m on the belief that this space is on the downside. I love Questionmark, its a wonderful product and it can use a “connector” to integrate into your learning platform or system. Anyone who says their product is 100% foolproof and can never be hacked is misleading you.

Yet, there were some products that stood out, if nothing else – for taking the lead and doing something that says “yes it is possible, and oh, it works&#. RCAT Product of the Year. Open Source Product of the Year (i.e. Also SCORM 1.2 & AICC. Innovation is listed next to the product. The product is not necessarily the ultimate in RCAT, but they are solid at the minimum and should be at least looked at, before making any decision.

Hence some vendors might pitch “gaming elements”, but there is no way – the point above – is what the rest of the world sees as gaming elements. For the masses of the e-learning audience, people do not shoot video at a production facility or have one in house; but some do.

In the AT world, knowing whether your AT accepts your specific compliance standard (SCORM, SCORM 1.2/2004, AICC, PENS, TinCan) would be equally relevant. I know, you are saying “I would never, buy just one and let five people share it” , but any vendor who has been in this space for at least 30 minutes knows that there are plenty of folks who do share after buying a single license. It happens a lot, especially if the product allows it (which many do).
