The Ultimate Glossary of eLearning Terms

LearnUpon

From Agile to xAPI and everything in between, there are a lot of eLearning terms to get your head around. Notable contributions include SCORM and xAPI. The first official eLearning content standard, AICC was developed by the Aviation Industry CBT Committee in 1993 as a CD-ROM based standard. A predecessor to SCORM, AICC was difficult to work with and many steps were required to get content in the format running in a learning management system (LMS). xAPI (Tin Can).

PENS – Why your LMS and Authoring Tool Solution should include it

In 2005, PENS was launched by AICC but did not initially gain wide acceptance. Think how long GIF has stuck around even though newer standards like JPEG, and PNG emerged. I think xAPI has managed to do that, but I don’t see SCORM disappearing anytime soon. I mean look at how long AICC has managed to keep a foothold, despite even the recent disbanding of the formal group. Paul Schneider in my opinion is one of the guru’s in the authoring tool industry.
