xAPI has become the valid standard for tracking all types of learning external to the LMS, yet I still haven’t developed a project, even a portfolio piece, using xAPI. They may be aware of xAPI or cmi5 but are not ready to shift. I think we are still in an education phase of what the benefits of xAPI have over SCORM.

Who would have thought that too many folks still think xAPI is open for debate, but CMI-5 seems to make sense? The irony if you will, is that xAPI, a supposedly savior for mobile, still does not have mass adoption and yet, CMI-5 – at least from my talks with vendors – is in the works for many.

Course standards are course standards, and yes, you have the option to select CMI-5 and xAPI. What I am finding is that AICC is nearly gone in the LEP space (as it is with LMSs too), so if I was you, I’d seek SCORM, SCORM 1.2, xAPI as my top three. I’ve seen it. . Total NexGen feature. So, totally NexGen.
