Elearning platforms meeting PENS standard makes online training easier

Having an LMS platform that meets the PENS standard is a one-click process, saving course authors time.

Publishing course content to a learning management system (LMS) is often time consuming, causing frustration to course authors. Having an LMS that meets the Package Exchange Notification System (PENS) standard, coupled with an authoring tool, will save course authors time and ibuprofen.

The PENS Standard was developed by the Aviation Industry Computer-Based-Training Committee (AICC) in 2006, and since then, it has grown in popularity because it makes uploading Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) content to an LMS a one-click process.

Before the PENS LMS, course authors would have to upload SCORM content to an elearning platform, using a tedious multistep process. Typically, publishing content in an elearning platform requires the creation of content in an authoring system, then logging into and navigating an LMS to upload that course. Multiply this process across multiple courses, and the time it takes to upload courses becomes burdensome.

In its next update, the Docebo LMS will support the PENS standard. This integration will make course administrators’ lives easier by streamlining the publication process with PENS-compliant authoring tools.

In a technical sense, this integration enables a one click publishing where the course authoring tool sends a message to the LMS that an authorized user wants to provide a new course package, the LMS then grabs it and the package and sends back a “Thanks, I got it” message. For an author, this becomes a huge time saver.

Are your course authors spending too much time uploading content to your LMS? The PENS module allows content to be saved to your Central Learning Repository in your Docebo platform, so your content can easily be distributed and replicated to multiple courses.
