I started thinking about managing instructional design projects and the need to find alternative strategies when things go wrong. The IT Department was to create a knowledge base for an issue tracking system that would be used by the Help Desk. Plan B: The consulting firm had developed learning portals in the past.

While the race is on for people to get LMSs and LCMSs, there are some people who either do not want or need a LMS/LCMS, but want to create a learning community or more often, some type of portal – intranet or internet. They may call it a “learning portal&# or “training or knowledge portal&# or whatever.
