There is plenty of opportunity to deviate from prescribed educational processes, which leads to endless possibilities for personal research and digressions into uncharted territory.

With the Southampton PLE Conference #PLE_SOU at full throttle, I thought it would be a good time to reiterate my views on the personal web. Personal Web Tools (PWTs) are thought by some to be synonymous with PLEs (Personal Learning Environments) but the two should not be confused. The report goes on to define personal webs as self created, and consisting of online tools that suit each individual's unique preferences, styles and needs.

On Sunday it's down to Frankfurt and a meeting with my old friend Sigi Jakob-Kuhn (follow her as @Networking_Lady on Twitter) in Wienheim, before moving onwards to Heidelburg to attend the International Networking Conference and chair their sessions on e-learning. It's all change again on Wednesday 7th July when I fly from Frankfurt down to Barcelona to participate in another exciting event - the first Personal Learning Environment Conference.

Doing so of course, they fall into exactly the same trap, because the alternative names - such as 'social web' and 'read/write web' - only tend to create certain expectations around those tools which may be unrealistic, and can also limit our imagination too. At the VLE is Dead symposium , there was an issue over the term PLE (Personal Learning Environment). or the PLE and rename will be a little more difficult, I predict.
