Questioning Gagné and Bloom’s Relevance

Experiencing eLearning

Learning styles (like visual, auditory, kinesthetic) have much less effect on learning results than other factors, but we often focus on them heavily. Bloom didn’t have any research for his taxonomy, but I still find it useful for my own planning; I just don’t pretend there’s a research-based argument for classifying a verb as application instead of analysis. As a follow-up question , she asked where I learned the above about Gagné and Bloom.

I'm referring in particular to a keynote session on the final day of Educa, presented by Donald Clark (above) , who was articulate, humorous, and at times, deeply profound in his analysis of the process of learning. He began by debunking many of the established and commonly accepted learning theories espoused by the likes of Benjamin Bloom (Taxonomy), Robert Gagne (Stages model) and Abraham Maslow (Hierarchy of needs). Defining Assessment Items from Learning Goals

Without assessments both the course and the learning promise are incomplete. Assessments are evidence that learning did take place, that learners have achieved the learning goals and are now ready to perform it in the work-context. What about the pilot who says he loves to fly and learned flying through “lots of practice!”? Assessments establish learning by linking performance to learning goals. Assessment items are directly inherited from learning goals.

Using Design Thinking To Create Better Custom eLearning Solutions

Adobe Captivate

In my previous blogs on Whole Brain Learning and Kolb’s learning styles, I talked about how we can improve the learning process by using certain strategies that are targeted to individual learning styles. From Kolb’s theories, we know two important styles that are converging and diverging. These two styles are used in Design Thinking which will be explained little later. Same can be applied to the learning context.
