Since my Top 10 list of LMS vendors has been posted online, I have received quite a bit of e-mail wondering why the biggest names: Cornerstone On Demand, Saba, SumTotal and SuccessFactors are not on the list. There is a wide assumption that if a product sells a lot it means that it is better than anyone else. Think about it.

SumTotal Learning Management (Formally known as SumTotal Learn) jumps over from Steady to Leader in just one year. Admin analytical data is nice, could be stronger IMO, but still NexGen exists. Nor did I include the advanced analytics which again is included in the platform for very large enterprise clients. SumTotal for example did a nice revamp, but their reporting is super outdated. For example, manager areas is not something of interest to B2B/B2C, I mean if I am a customer of product X, why would I need a manager area?

SumTotal – you buy every mod – HCM. Best to purchase multiple modules from them – LMS, Engage and Analytics. Analytics are tied around their whole AL angle, which again, some of it is interesting, some isn’t. The analytics are solid. Customer Ed? HCM and ERP and the list goes on.
