Hypercard and Authorware both launched in 1987, making it easy to create multi-media programs.

The next generation of authoring tools included a handful of really serious players, notably Authorware (now with Adobe) and Toolbook (now with SumTotal), both still going although not so strongly. Everybody's got an authoring tool. Why on earth not?
