How much is an authoring tool worth?

Clive on Learning

Empower , a rapid Flash interaction builder, for the princely sum of $99, got me wondering if I have any idea any more of what an authoring tool is worth. Empower looks like it is much more powerful than Articulate Engage, which sells for four times as much, and almost certainly cost Trivantis much more to develop. Time was an authoring tool cost at very least $1K and often much more. authoring toolsThe recent release by Trivantis of Snap!

6 Trends in Rapid eLearning Tools to watch in 2012

mLearning Revolution

I absolutely love software, apps, applications, extensions, plug-ins, add-ons, whatever you want to call it. Because one of my passions is to review software and as I’m doing it, I’m always coming up with ways I think the software could be better, it’s just part of my DNA I suppose. HTML5 — This is a no-brainer for me and I strongly believe every Rapid eLearning tool should absolutely have a simple way to get a course published to HTML5 in 2012.

eLearning Guild Authoring & Development Tools Research Report (2008)

Learning Visions

After my session at ISPI earlier this week, someone commented that what would have really been useful is a list of the top 10 authoring tools in the market. During my presentation, I flashed up on the screen a list of the 122+ tools listed in the Brandon Hall database. And of course, the tool needs to fit the purpose, so one tool won’t fit all. I did dig up the eLearning Guild Authoring Tools Research Report (January 2008).

Breaking Good Articulate Quizmaker

B Online Learning

In my last post, I talked about how to ‘think outside the box’ when creating Articulate Engage interactions. Although you can be creative in Articulate Engage, ultimately there are limits to what you can do. This is because Articulate Engage is a form based tool. In this post, I’d like to look at Articulate Quizmaker — [.]. Articulate eLearning Design eLearning Development eLearning course design instructional design rapid authoring tools

Articulate Studio 360 – The trident within Articulate 360

Stratbeans

Yes, Studio 360 can be called as the trident as it consists of the three content authoring prongs – Presenter 360, Quizmaker 360, Engage 360 for creating powerpoint-based courses easily with custom interactions, suitable assessments. All the three tools have specific features which make them self-sufficient implicitly and a master tool explicitly which turns out to be Studio 360. Now let’s dive into more details on features tool-wise. Engage 360.

Product Review: Lectora Snap! Empower

eLearning 24-7

Spelling – I am always surprised at the number of authoring tools who do not have this feature. Lectora compares this product to Articulate Engage and frankly I think that is a mistake. Empower blows away Engage on multiple levels and as such I’d put this product against some of the rapid content authoring tools that offer simulation options. authoring tools e-learning e-learning vendors Lectora Product Review Snap!

How to create presentation based e-Learning?

Review of Snap! 1.1 Update

by Lectora – a PowerPoint authoring tool à la Articulate. I’d put about half of them in the keeping-up-with-the-Joneses category, meaning the addition of basic features that Articulate already has. Technically, a skilled programmer could probably get Articulate to do that by adding their own HTML or JavaScript, but Snap! Advantage: Articulate. Supports ActionScript 3 (but I wouldn’t be surprised If Articulate fixes that soon).

I’m going to share them from my perspective in the Articulate user community, but the ideas aren’t limited to any specific tool. You can join your software’s user community which is usually an online forum. The software only gives you features. The software you use is just a tool. You probably need less help with the technical part of the tool and more with how to use the tool to produce the course you desire.
