Jane Hart's e-Learning Pick of the Day drew my attention to Articulate Online , a hosted online service offered by Articulate for users who want a low-cost (from $199/month) means to deploy and track their e-learning content. As they say on the site: "With Articulate Online you'll never need an expensive corporate learning management system, and you'll never worry about frustrating and unnecessary complexity."

The learners will get access to webinars, recorded webinars, videos, and other online content that they will author separately. They don't really have a tech team, so going with a hosted solution that would live at a subdomain would be best, i.e., subscribers would go to: learn.company.com in order to sign up, pay, and get access to webinars, content, etc.

If you call yourself an instructional designer, then there is no doubt that you have had exposure (at some point) to Articulate Studio, or their newer Storyline offering. It seems that most training projects that involve elearning will utilize either Articulate or Captivate – at least that has been the case for every project I have been on. For years, the Articulate Studio offering has been a (very) successful add-on to Microsoft PowerPoint.

Current Thinking So, without a lot of thought, here’s what I’m currently thinking and I hope folks will weigh in… I was a little surprised when I realized how much some of the mainstream SaaS LMS products (Articulate Online, Learn.com, etc.) We are definitely considering doing something like a hosted Moodle solution.
