Our relationship goes back a long way too as I can recall the days of using Captivate when it was owned by Macromedia. Articulate wasn’t the juggernaut that it is today, and aside from learning how to program Flash, Macromedia Captivate was your next best option. For a long time this is where Captivate really shined.

Acquistions – Someone had an idea

Someone came up with the idea to create templates for developing courses quickly – and no, it wasn’t someone from Adobe or Articulate. Instead, it was someone from Macromedia Dreamweaver, which is software for building websites. Not Articulate. At the time, I hated it.

Think of today, and Articulate Storyline fan base. A product called Macromedia Flash (being used with web sites) became a go to for course development. Macromedia Dreamweaver came out with templates. It had a steep learning curve (admitted by Articulate to me). Articulate denied this. It’s large. Not so much.

We flirted with creating early knowledge management systems and went out of business the next year. We should have stuck with what we were good at. We are adapting as we speak.
